something that does have to be said and acknowledged is that there are people who cannot go vegetarian or vegan. there are people with disabilities/dietary restrictions that make being vegetarian or vegan categorically impossible in our current world.

this is why the solution to the evils of factory farming and industrial animal agriculture can't just be "everyone goes vegan and we transition to a plant-based diet as a species". if we did that some people would starve and die.

still haven't moved on from zane in this episode (aka I hit tag limit again and am unhappy about it)

#alek insanity #not gonna main tag this but prepare for a tiny rant #home is actually really good zane characterization and its super cool to me how it holds up to this day #s1 characterization is very specific to me because the behaviors displayed by the ninja there (mostly) isnt bc thats how they really are but #its due to societal pressure. cole originally being more 'stone faced tough guy' -> 'down to earth' -> 'really sensible easy to talk to guy'#is because hes always been a sensitive guy... but he felt he couldnt express that true version of himself. thats the whole thing behind his #true potential. jay going from s1 -> s6 -> now is less of societal pressure and more teenager figuring himself out but it still applies. ish #seeing how much the ninja have changed or grown from then to now is amazing because back then they all wore masks. they didnt know each #other all that well. but theyve gained that comfortability with each other and also have grown and matured as people #some seasons / eps characterization for certain people im not a fan of (lloyds random misogyny arc in s13) but i mean the overall trend here #and then there is zane. zane in home was pretty dead on to how he behaves now (at least... when it comes to his faults?) and i dont want to #say people skim over that but i am the sf proclaimed n1 s1e2 fan and overthink every scene. zane's early characterization is some of my fav #for him period. he also goes through a ton of traumatic stuff and a ton of bad writing bouts but why he acts so 'weird' or 'distant' has #always been a thread sewn in. he changed so much he stayed the same in a way... if that makes sense. -> ohhh the ninja get mail and he #doesnt? oh he has no family? he quite literally walks away from that situation. oh the ninja are yelling in his face and asking whats wrong #with him? he literally walks away from that situation. he says its to follow the falcon but seeing how he apologized to them by not only #baking a ton of pies (cough... the food fight is what led to him leaving at first) but he also found them a whole entire new house.#zane is unable to truly value what he does for others. insert him in s11 saying he 'tried' to fufill his goal of protecting others.#everything he has ever done still isnt good enough. then the ninja tried to apologize and he didnt really... let them.#that one post about characters putting on facades and that facade being how people really see them. even in fandom. thats zane to me #the guy who lies about being upset and avoids his problems ran away after being yelled at? and he said he wasnt really mad? that is a lie!!#him being a ~360 when it comes to his character development is neat to me because he never hid behind a mask in the same way the others did #cole wanting to seem tough vs being really soft? kai wanting approval so bad he starts being selfish? kai isnt selfish usually!#he is self centered but that is a whole different thing. just wanting to fit in and breaking free of that. zane's true potential came in the #form of 'i finally know why i am not normal' instead of 'i will be my true self'. zane never pretended to not be weird #(instert book) states he literally didnt know why people got mad at him. he just existed and it was 'wrong'. the mask he hid behind was #avoidance. he was pretty open about how he actually was (most of the time). when he was upset he would audibly sigh and walk away lol #but for him saying he wasnt upset / saddened by the ninja... it felt like a moment of selflessness. if that makes sense. he blamed himself #for the monestary burning down. so he didnt deserve the apologies (ish) in the virtues of spinjitzu zane is shown as the generous one iirc #he puts the needs of others over his own. he will bear whatever burden he needs if others are happy. at that same time he doesnt allow

#I have been spending every waking non-working hour working at church #getting almost nothing done because everything I do is dependent on electricians and construction guys #and I've only washed my hair 3 times since getting it dyed and already having to wash it in cold water is making me want to die #I'm sorry ik we aren't supposed to talk in suicidal hyperbole I do not actually want to die #but all of this is enough that I don't know how else to describe how frustrated I am #I just don't want to be here. I want to be freaking DONE just let me have a freaking moment's peace #and a customer today kept coming back in accusing my coworkers of fraud and theft (all of it was on camera and none of what he was #accusing all of them of was even plausible but ''my package tracking isn't working so you must have stolen the package''#reader. he had the wrong fucking tracking number #he was AT THE POLICE STATION to file a report against us when my boss finally got ahold of him to tell him he had the wrong tracking info #and it was mad busy at work #my dad has told me I'll probably have to stay at church until like 2 or 3am tomorrow to get everything set up #and then I need to be there by like 6am to set up on Sunday morning #at this point I don't think I'm going to make it out alive. how do you survive on that little sleep and NO alone time whatsoever?#the fact that I don't get any alone time is what's truly killing me like. even my MOM who likes to be busy all the time #gets to have alone time. but not me. not this week #and my hair is just the last straw. it is beyond infuriating how anne rice seems to insist on marius being a positive force in anyone's life ever. like she can't fully commit to exploring the fact he groomed armand and has repeatedly taken away his consent for what marius thinks is best (take the end of TVA as an example) and just kind of flatly puts it in the narrative. there's not really much interest in how these horrific events make marius come across as the worst because EVERYONE loves him. for gods sake, lestat learns from armand exactly what marius did to him in TVL and then proceeds to go find marius and be super friendly to him in the same fucking book. even armand and pandora, two of the people who have MORE than enough right to hate him, do not. it doesnt feel like shes trying to explore the toxicity of the abusive dynamic he traps them in, it just is there. and like yeah ofc the toxic vampire romance series but i think that this should be handled with more care. and it is not ever really framed in a way that she is interested in exploring how marius should easily be one of the most horrific characters in this series because it kind of feels like sa/rape/grooming/other things of that sort are just put there to further plot and not to really get the respect that they deserve in a medium.

I don't even have any horses in this race, but have remained enraptured for a long time by the drama of a group of people trying to search for the unreleased original live-action, people-in-costumes, pilot of Nickelodeon show The Backyardigans since 2017.

It looks like this - unremarkable; to someone like me, anyway.

As such, the initial concept was pretty uninteresting to me - not least because of being a teenager when The Backyardigans was a thing anyway - but the stakes raised quickly.

The latest development is their biggest one. After literal years of weirdness; including but not limited to many article and video takedowns, a strange ghosting by someone who appeared to own a legitimate copy of the episode in question, a bunch of allegedly cagey staff members, and false claims of death threats being sent to the creator of the show; it now turns out that the pilot was held by a group of people since at least 2016, before their search even started - the admins of The Backyardigans fan wiki.

Sounds great, right? It's not. As it turns out, this group of adult admins were so extremely insecure about their wiki being the authoritative source on all things related to a very specific toddler cartoon that they repressed any knowledge they could of them having the pilot, faked emails from staff, FAKED STAFF CREDIT NAMES, were probably behind the initial death threat claims to keep people away from their precious preschool treasure, and leaked images of the pilot so they could send spies into the other group as false searchers with aforementioned false emails and faked information to make sure they don't find the pilot. All of this because they were not happy that another wiki made an article highlighting the search; ironically with far more detailed information than their article on the pilot to this day.

They have considered a group of people looking for a kid's show some kind of active defcon 1-level threat since 2017. You don't get this quality of drama from not being terminally online.
